Pushing the Boundaries of Image
and Data Capture

By Mark Brousseau

The digital transformation of the payments and document automation industries continues to take major steps forward. More and more enterprises are leveraging distributed capture innovation to revolutionize the way they capture and manage mission-critical information.

Today, every step taken to capture, process, archive and distribute business
information is shifting from a manual, paper-intensive and centralized process to an automated, digital, agile and increasingly distributed process. That revolution is happening across vertical markets – banking, insurance, brokerage, government, fundraising, education, healthcare and more.

It’s undeniable that distributed capture technology plays an increasingly important role in the business of payments and document automation. It enables every step of payments and document automation. At the core of most distributed capture strategies is the desire to improve tired business processes. Leveraging technology offered by TAWPI affiliate members, enterprises are able to capture critical images and data at the point of presentment – thereby reducing the lag in getting at important business information (“information float”).

As enterprises increasingly add distributed capture into their environments, they will become better equipped to adapt and optimize image and data management through advanced technologies such as enterprise content management and hosted archive and delivery, adding greater simplicity and utilization of operations and IT resources. When combined with efficient back-office solutions, distributed capture provides a clear information management roadmap for the future, with an adaptive capture infrastructure that is efficient and extensible.

All of this allows enterprises to focus less on paper-shuffling and more on the most important parts of the business; it also minimizes the number of times documents have to be handled, maintaining the highest possible efficiency and quality all the way from capture to delivery.

In response, TAWPI is working with our members in the payments and document automation industries to develop and deliver content and tools that benefit enterprises migrating to distributed capture. By taking the mystery out of capture processes, and providing insight and best practices across vertical industries, we hope to drive the electronic revolution forward – helping our stakeholders make a full transition to the all-digital world.

One of our initiatives is the Distributed Capture Forum at this year’s Forums & Expo in Orlando. Another is our primer on Back Office Conversion (BOC). We have also featured Webinars on remote deposit capture. And the pages of today, including this issue, feature articles on remote deposit capture, distributed capture and workgroup scanning. TAWPI will continue to work closely with members to create content and tools to make the digital transition a reality, radically simplifying the way information is managed.
